Calif. Firefighters Rescue Man Buried Digging for Gold
RANDSBURG, Calif. -- Just before 12:15 p.m. Monday the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a man who had become entrapped in an open pit while mining for gold near the Duisenberg Mining Camp.
The area is located northeast of Randsburg. About ten firefighters responded to the incident.
Upon arrival, fire crews located a man who was entrapped by dirt and rocks that had sloughed off a wall in the open pit where he was mining.
Firefighters administered medical aid and immediately began working with a variety of light tools in an attempt to extricate the victim. He was removed from the debris in approximately forty-five minutes and airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital with major injuries.
Assistance was received from BLM, KCSO, Liberty Ambulance, Mercy Air Services, and the California Department of Fish and Game.
